David Rokeby, in Toronto in the late 1980s, began work on developing the Very Nervous System, a video-based system that could track a performer's movements. In Rokeby's words, "Because the computer is purely logical, the language of interaction should strive to be intuitive. Because the computer removes you from your body, the body should be strongly engaged ..."
