 Homenaje a la flecha ...

  Coriun Aharonian

Homenaje a la flecha clavada en il pecho de Don Juan Díaz de Solís (Homage to the arrow stuck into the breast of Don Juan Díaz de Solís) was composed by Coriún Aharonián, native of Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1974 at GMEB (Groupe de Musique Experimentale de Bourges) in Bourges, France. The composition contains sounds made exclusively with flutes from the Andean Altiplano cultures of Latin America.

Aharonián wrote: " I try to render a double homage. A first to the real owners of the land of the Americas ... the second homage is for an Indian in particular ..." Juan Díaz de Solís had been the one chosen by the Spanish crown to colonize the southern part of Latin America. As the legend goes, he was struck as he first stepped onto the continent.
